5 Fitness Trends for 2015

Have you started incorporating more bodyweight exercises into your routine? Personal trainers, are you incorporating more HIIT into your client’s plans? Dealers, are you selling more functional training equipment?  If so, you’re on the right track as all three of those were named top 10 fitness trends for 2015 by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). Now in its ninth year, the ACSM fitness survey is based on roughly 3,400 responses from health and fitness professionals around the world.

1. Bodyweight Training: Bodyweight training takes the top spot on this year’s list. As people move towards a more “back to basics” mentality with fitness, bodyweight training has exploded in popularity. As such, people have moved beyond simply doing push-ups and pull-ups and have evolved bodyweight training to include jump roping, VKR machines, dip stations and more. Body-Solid’s recently released Core Essentials (BSTPACK) is a nine-item package focused solely on utilizing your own bodyweight to gain strength, build muscle, boost cardio and, of course, burn fat.

2. High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT): HIIT focuses on short bursts of activity followed by a short period of recovery usually performed in less than 30 minutes. As our world becomes busier and busier, free time to get in the gym (whether home or commercial) becomes much harder. As a result, quicker but effective programs like HIIT have exploded in popularity.

3.  Educated and Experienced Fitness Professionals: If you’re passionate about working out chances are you’ve considered teaching others to achieve as much as you have — it’s only natural. Many different organizations have begun offering health and fitness certifications but it’s important that you get certified only through programs accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA).

4. Strength Training: Despite trends and fads popping up left and right, it’s hard to top classic strength training as a method of building muscle, maintaining or losing weight and overall fitness. Incorporating strength training is essential regardless of gender or level. Strength training is a central part of what we do at Body-Solid with hundreds of products focusing on building a better, stronger you.

5. Personal Training: Much like #3 on our list, a trend of 2015 is users getting into personal training. We see new trainers using our products on a daily basis and it’s a market that appears to have even more growth potential than we’ve already seen. New crops of students are graduating college with majors in Kinesiology with desires of one day becoming a commercial or personal training.

That’s our top five fitness trends of 2015 but before we leave let’s take a quick look at some other highlights and interesting newcomers to the top 10:

7. Yoga: Once seen as a fad, it appears Yoga is here to stay. Whether you're a fan of Power Yoga, Yogalates, Bikram, Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Kripalu, Anuradha, Kundalini or Sivananda, chances are you can find the Yoga program that fits your fitness goals.

8. Fitness Programs for Older Adults: The baby boomers are slowly aging into retirement and as such are beginning to incorporate more fitness into their lives. Whether it’s simply walking on a treadmill to keep the blood flowing or continuing to build muscle, older adults are interested in fitness. This applies to both commercial gyms, which are seeing an increase in adult participation, fitness stores which sell more equipment to older adults everyday or personal trainers, who have more older trainees than ever.
