Pontardawe, Wales in the United Kingdom is a small town of around 5,000 inhabitants. Pontardawe boasts a cricket team, a rugby club as well as a small but loaded gym: Hour of Power.
Hour of Power is not new the area, the gym has been well-established for years but has undergone a radical transformation since 2016 when Chris Daniels took over the place and asked buddy Doug Steele to help out with the marketing.
“Hour of Power was already established as a good local gym,” said Steele. “But with only a small core of members, predominantly power lifters.”
Hour of Power owner Chris Daniels is a longtime friend of Steele from their Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training. Daniels has called Pontardawe home for his entire life, so Hour of Power is local through and through.
Since 2016, Hour of Power has seen great strides with double the amount of regular members and several updates to the gym’s offerings including four Body-Solid pieces: GCEC340, GPM65 and GCBT380.
Hour of Power is an old school gym, small and friendly with a one-of-a-kind atmosphere. The clientele ranges from young to old, power lifters, women and everything in-between.
“Some train for fitness, some for mass and some for power,” said Steele of his diverse membership.
When looking for equipment to add to Hour of Power, Chris found Body-Solid fit all of Hour of Power’s criteria.
“We don’t have loads of spare room so I needed equipment that would fit,” said Steele. “Secondly, the price, Body-Solid is great quality at a sensible price.”
Hour of Power is continuing to ride the wave of momentum and has begun finding new and interesting ways to market their facility including new monthly challenges.
“The monthly challenges are proving very popular,” said Steele. “This month’s challenge is max reps at your body weight bench press — it’s starting to get a little competitive!”
