Last week our customer service team received an inquiry about replacement cables for a Body-Solid gym. While that’s not out of the ordinary as our service team is fully prepared to provide replacement cables or parts for any Body-Solid equipment, what was peculiar was the product our customer (Tom Anders) needed cables for: the Body-Solid PowerFlex Gym (PFG1).
The PowerFlex Gym is nearly 30 years old and is one of Body-Solid’s oldest products, first launching in 1991 just a few years into Body-Solid’s existence as a company.
Here are pages from our 1991 catalog introducing the then-revolutionary PowerFlex Gym:
Anders, the customer who reached out, gave us some details about the PFG1 and how reliable the piece has been since he bought it 22 years ago.
“I purchased the PFG1 back sometime in 1996,” said Anders, who is currently an orthopedic physical therapist in Pennsylvania.
Anders began workout out seriously around the time of his purchase when he was focused on his basketball career and hoping to earn a college scholarship.
Today, Anders is still very active due in large part to his practice as an orthopedic physical therapist.
“Fitness and exercise have been a huge part of what I do on a daily basis,” said Anders. “I have always had the philosophy that if I am going to teach health, wellness and fitness that I better practice what I teach.”
Since Anders first purchased the PFG1 in 1996, it’s been on quite a journey and received plenty of abuse — yet, here it is, 22 years later, still standing and still holding up well!
“The PFG1 started out at my parents house where I used it six to seven days a week until I had to go to college,” said Anders. “Once I got to graduate school the PFG1 moved to my apartment and I was back to a working out five days per week.”
After graduation, Anders moved to Johnstown, PA to practice and the PFG1 once again made the move, staying there for two years.
“I bought my permanent home in 2006 and (the PFG1) has been there ever since,” said Anders. “Currently, I use the PFG1 four to five days per week for my regular workouts.”
When we say our products are Built for Life, it’s not just a marketing slogan – it’s a promise. We have the strongest warranties in the industry and stand by all of our products, forever. Moreover, our products are designed and constructed to last a lifetime, even in heavy-use environments.
“It is quite amazing that over all these years the only thing I ever needed (for the PFG1) was a set of replacement cables,” said Anders about the PFG1’s reliability.
